Narrow defeat for our worthy golfers
For many years, the intense rivalry between Rochford Rotary Club and the young up-start Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill has found its outlet in the annual tussle to win the golf competition for the coveted Tony Bakonyvari Golf Trophy
Tony was a well-respected and well-loved member of Rochford Rotary Club for many years (as well as being a member of the Rotary charity band Wheelz) and, after his early death, the clubs inaugurated the golf competition in his memory.
This year’s competition, staged at the Rochford Hundred Golf Club, was the first for three years due to the restrictions imposed by Covid 19. Nevertheless, the teams were glad to get together again to renew their rivalry but, unfortunately, the resulting competition ended in a narrow defeat by four points for the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill.
The participants from both clubs, however, enjoyed the chance to renew old acquaintances in the usual spirit of friendly rivalry and look forward to next year’s competition.
