Julie is the Chair of the Barrow panel of Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) for the Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioners office.

Julie Dawes is the Chair of the Barrow panel of Independent Custody Visitors (ICV) for the Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioners office.

She will give a brief outline of the purpose of this UK national scheme, why it was introduced, the role of the Custody visitors and the governance framework that must be followed.

Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) are members of the public recruited to visit police stations at random to check on the treatment of the people held in custody by the police.

ICVs volunteer with a partner and arrive unannounced at police stations.
