Little did the members of the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill know when Lindsay Hurrell from the charity Re-cycle visited the club just before Lockdown last year that the collection of unwanted bikes in the Rayleigh and surrounding area would be the outstanding success that it has become.
Through the efforts of Jackie Wellman, with the help of other members of the club has, in her relentless aim of helping African communities...............and ridding Southend and surrounding areas of unwanted bicycles, amassed an amazing total of 601 bicycles.
The bikes are refurbished by the Re-cycle charity (www.re-cycle.org) and shipped to communities in Africa where they completely change the lives of those who receive them by allowing children to collect water quicker and free them up to attend school, travel to school quicker to school and to allow adults to find work further from their homes.
