Club Meeting — Burns Lunch

On the menu was Scotch Broth, then Haggis, Tatties and Neeps. Gordon Burgess gave the Selkirk Grace, and there was a free raffle for a bottle of Robert Burns Whisky.


President Derek Hall welcomed fourteen other members and guest Phyllis Fullarton to the Burns Lunch.

After past president and honorary member Gordon Burgess gave the Selkirk Grace, a tasty lunch of Scotch Broth and haggis, neeps and tatties was served.

The president told the meeting that this was the 50th anniversary of the first Burns Supper he attended, and he had attended at least one every year since.

The first one was a Round Table event. He was first asked to be on door duty, then this was changed to proposing the vote of thanks. Three days later his task was changed to proposing the Toast to the Lassies — he prepared for this, but the day before the event it was changed again to proposing the Immortal Memory, which was not easy for an Englishman who had recently moved to Scotland.

All went well, apart from his reference to Rabbi Burns!

The special free raffle for a bottle of Robert Burns Malt Whisky distilled in the Isle of Arran was won by secretary Donald Fullarton. The weekly raffle for a whisky miniature, on this occasion an 18 year-old Glenfiddich Single Malt from Speyside, was won by Michael Dawson.
