The first post-Covid Big Band Show that Ely Rotary Club presented on Saturday 12th February turned out to be a real success, and a real party-feel prevailed.
The first half of the programme started with "Yankee Doodle Dandy", "Tail End Charlie" and a Forties Medley, all wartime numbers by Glenn Miller.
Then the second half included the
very popular choice of "String of Pearls", "Tuxedo
Junction", "In the Mood", "Moonlight Serenade" and
"American Patrol". These all pulled the dancers onto the floor!
Rotary's choice of this early date
after the pandemic for their tenth show was exactly the right one to re-awake
the nostalgic moods created by these wonderful songs and bands. So many people
were asking "when is the next one?"
The band of members who produced this wonderful show, made the evening a special Valentine's celebration by supplying heart-shaped chocolates on each table, Valentine's decorations in the hall, and a bar, and a raffle.
