Statement on support for the Ukrainian refugee situation
Rotary is an international charity acting both locally and globally. Malton and Norton Rotary Club is closely associated with the Polish Rotary Club Bartoszyce-Lidzbark Warminski, northern Poland and we have a dual nationality member from that town.
On Tuesday 1st March 2022 the two clubs held a zoom meeting with Cezary Styczewski, the past club President. He told us that the area already has a large number of young refugee families from Ukraine looking for aid. Their club members have already personally given shelter to some and the club was involved in helping others.
Cezary said that one problem that exists is that while clothing, food and other supplies are available in the town, younger family members and babies require fresh food such as milk and other necessities, which currently can, be purchased locally. Our club made successful arrangements to immediately transfer an initial significant sum of money from our charity account to the Rotary Club Bartoszyce-Lidzbark for this purpose.
The use and distribution of these funds is being securely overlooked by three selected members of the Polish club. This team will distribute these funds with diligence, care and compassion to those families in need. .
Our club will now be looking into further immediate actions to raise and then distribute further funds as needed, including collection tins around our towns.
