Club supports tree-planting scheme
City of Hereford Rotary Club has been busy supporting a tree-planting scheme in Hereford near the Yazor Brook.
CITY of Hereford Rotary Club has been supporting a tree-planting scheme in the city to celebrate 90 years of Rotary in Hereford and to support the Queen's Jubilee Canopy.
The City Tree Warden identified a site at Yazor Brook where they are doing some restoration work with tree planting and this will help alleviate flooding.
“The planting will also be enjoyed as the footpath alongside is well used, enhancing well-being,” said Stephanie Crowther, the chairman of the club’s Community and Environment committee.
“The work is in progress at present planting 100 trees made up of a few oaks plus a mixture of saplings with blossoms and fruit to attract birds and insects.”
The club has been working hard to play its part in the local community over the past two years, despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, supporting events here and further afield.
As part of the international effort to support the Ukraine, the club held a street collection in the city and this raised more than £4,000.
Meanwhile, the club is planning for the next Rotary year and electing new officers to fill posts from July.
Peter Maxwell will be the new president with Stephanie Crowther and Paul Bartlett filling the secretary and treasurer roles respectively.
