On Friday 20th May the Rotary Club of Felixstowe held its 7th Charity Boxing Dinner at Brackenbury Sports Centre. Due to Covid, it has been three years since we last held this popular event so we were very pleased to have a sell-out evening. Thanks to all our sponsors and particularly our Headline Sponsor George Baker Shipping. We enjoyed an excellent dinner and then watched the young boxers, from Teesside and the local area, who fought a number of bouts and received trophies for their efforts.
Dave Norman, who has been our MC and auctioneer in previous years, had a special trophy named in his honour. This, the “Dave Norman Cup”, was awarded to the winning team. During the interval between the junior and senior bouts an auction of sporting memorabilia raised a substantial amount and this, added to the ticket sales, meant that we made a total of almost £25,000. This record amount will go into The Rotary Club of Felixstowe’s funds for helping local charities and deserving causes.
Below we see the presentation of the Dave Norman Cup to Tyne, Tees and Wear. (On the left Rotarian Richard Bugg chair of the boxing committee, and on the right Dave Norman himself.)
more Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, and the enthusiasm of the competitors it was a great day of golf, with over £1,600 raised for local causes. See below for the results and presentations.
