The following proposals were put to club assembly on July 7 by the International Committee lead, Ray Edwardson
Our ongoing project . . . Opportunity International – To support small business enterprise in Malawi; particularly to improve the lifestyle of women and girls who would otherwise be disadvantaged. Following careful background research to ensure relevant assurances, this project was undertaken in the last quarter of 2021-22, dedicated to the memory of the late Syd Slater, a Rotarian colleague and former member of the International committee with a particular interest in, and passion for this type of project. Our initial contribution was made from donations received in Syd’s memory.
Our existing longer-term commitments . .
Foundation – Polio Plus
International Children’s Trust – To support the education of two boys in India;
SOS Children’s Villages – To support the education of two girls in The Gambia
Rotary Shoebox Scheme
In addition to these we will consider reasonable donations to those causes that we have supported in the past and others based upon need and budget constraints. These include . . . Mary’s MealsWater Aid Disaster AidShelter Box Hope and Homes for ChildrenGlobal Sight Solutions Mercy Ships500 Miles
We are also recommending that we support the ongoing Wigan cluster project with a view to expediting its completion . . . Ashanti water and sanitation project in the village of Jansa, in Ghana. With the borehole now operational, the next stage is to provide toilets and training in the maintenance of them; and we hope to make a recommendation to the club at the next business meeting.
We will be pro-active in the organisation of fundraising events to give substance our projects and to achieve our objectives effectively. We will also ensure that all such organisation will be open to any club member who wishes to participate and share their particular expertise.
On behalf of the International Committee, I commend this programme to the Club. Ray Edwardson / International Lead / 14 June 2022
