Petts Wood Playgroup - July 2022

A new playhouse for the children

Petts Wood Playgroup

Petts Wood Playgroup for children with special needs is an award-winning playgroup started in 1968 by a group from local churches. The group provides free support and care for very young children with special needs.

Rotary Beckenham has been working with and supporting the group over many years, helping to provide much needed equipment to a well-respected and long-established group that provides playgroup facilities for children with special needs.

When the Playgroup told us that they needed to replace their ageing playhouse, which had deteriorated through weathering and become unusable, Beckenham Rotarians didn’t hesitate to step in and help. From some of the funds raised by our Christmas collections with Santa, the club offered to purchase a new playhouse.

The Playgroup leaders decided on the playhouse they wanted and chose a ‘BillyOh Lollipop Max'. The suppliers were contacted and when they learned that the playhouse was being purchased by a Rotary Club they reduced the cost, which meant the Playgroup had extra cash to spend on ‘furnishing’ their new house.

The team was on standby and once the various sections of the playhouse were delivered, they set to work, clearing and levelling the ground and then carefully following the step-by-step instructions, they constructed the "BillyOh Lollipop Max". Flat pack assembly rarely turns out to be as easy as the manufacturer's claim - and this was no exception - but we got there in the end and actually enjoyed the challenge. This was a special effort for special people.

When the children return after their summer break, they can look forward to enjoying hours of fun in their new playhouse.

Thanks to all for a great team effort, that managed to assemble the playhouse despite confusing instructions and particular thanks to the ‘ground-works team’ for their efforts in removing roots and levelling the site. The finished playhouse can be seen in the photographs along with the team members.
