Sunday 22nd October saw the second edition Penrith Rotary Trail Run at our new venue, Dalemain Mansion near Penrith.
After the passing of Storm Babet, which had us worried earlier in the week, the weather was surprisingly pleasant with even the odd sunny period.
Our members and friends rallied round as usual, and we also received sterling support from the Cumbria Police Cadets to make the day run smoothly.
Penrith Lions again stepped up to assist and organised the car parking for us on the day.
BEEP Doctors Cumbria again provided excellent medical support for the event and we give our thanks, once again, to Dr Theo Weston for his time and expertise. He only had one small dressing to apply on this occasion, but we kept him busy anyway erecting gazebos and the like.
It’s great to have people that you can rely on helping.
On the day there were 58 entrants in the Trail Run, but sadly the uptake on the Fun Run and Pudsey ramble were disappointing. Despite this both events went ahead and Pudsey, on loan from the BBC, was in attendance from about 1130. Those who signed up for the ramble were well looked after, with a full police escort for the whole walk. Needless to say, we counted them all out and we counted them all back.
Charlie Lowther of Eden Runners was the clear winner of the Trail Run and was followed by John French, also from Eden Runners. Third was Jamie Ovens from Dumfries Running Club. Full results are available here.
Eden Runners and Dumfries Running club between them provided us with about 20 starters, so our thanks go to them for their support.
The French family were also 1st and 2nd in the Fun Run followed, in 3rd, by Katie. It looks like local races will be seeing this name winning well into the future.
All in all, we had a great day with tremendous support from Dalemain Estates. We also raised a fair amount of money which we will use to fund the various local and international projects that Penrith Rotary supports. Raising money while having fun is part of what Rotary is about. You can check us out here for more information.
We intend to be back again next year, but we considering whether to move the event back to earlier in the month as it was in 2022. Any feedback on this from previous or current participants would be welcome [johnshorter48@gmail.com].
