The speaker at the meeting of Kendal Rotary Club on 7th November was Natalie Huddart of the North West Air Ambulance who gave us an update on the work of the charity. With its motto ‘Flying to save Lives’, its vision is to ‘Bring the Hospital to the Patient’ with its purpose ‘To fly the most advanced medical crew and equipment to patients when and where they need it most’. Their helicopters and HEMS response vehicles operate 365 days of the year, with a highly skilled specialist doctors and paramedics on board providing enhanced pre-hospital care and hospital transfers to patients across the North West each year – an area covering 5,500 square miles and over 8 million people.
