On Thursday 26th January 2023 at Ivy Hill Hotel, the club celebrated Burns’ Anniversary with an ‘Evening of Scottish Culture, Fayre and Dancing’.
The 80 guests attending soon witnessed the chef parading the Haggis around the
room to the rousing sound of the pipes. Fred Hodges piped in the Haggis, which
was addressed by John Metcalfe, who also gave ‘The Immortal Memory’. After our
Scottish meal, the Sandon Scottish Country Dancing Group gave us a display of
some intricate Jigs, Reels & Strathspeys. Some guests then joined them for
some simpler dances!
prior to the dancing, a “Paul Harris Fellowship” was
awarded to Keith Brown by President Nigel Wagland. Andrew Clarkson introduced
Keith and explained about the ‘PHF’ award and how it is awarded to Rotarians or
non-members for exceptional service to the club and community.
It was a most enjoyable evening – organised by Ian Chatters; photos – courtesy
