RotaKids Conference

University of Cumbria

RotaKids Conference at University of Cumbria on Friday 16th June

On a warm sunny day with temperatures in the high 20’s, around 120  RotaKids full of anticipation, arrived in Lancaster.   Clubs from Carlisle to Darwen to the Fylde Coast representing Primary Schools from all over our District came together in the Lecture Theatre, with their teachers, assistants and great support from our Rotarians.  After introductions, groups of excited children spread out over the University and began a morning of learning and activity in ¾ of an hour workshops.  So, what was on offer.  We welcomed teams from River Ribble Trust, Lune Valley Beekeepers, Barton Grange, NW Cancer Research, Sign Language at Morecambe Road School, Milnthorpe First Responders, Blackpool Polio Project, Lancashire Fire & Rescue, Music and Drumming, all of whom gave of their time freely.

Due to pressure of time, RotaKids were only able to visit three of the workshops but were able to share their experiences with their own peers as the morning went on.  Lunch comprised sandwiches for the most part on the grass, then after the final sessions, everyone gathered again in the lecture theatre.  Lower Furness RotaKids collectively gave a very interesting slide show and talk on their Palm Oil studies, followed by Carnforth Community RotaKids, a relatively new club, who told us about “a year in the life of …..”.  DG Kath Bromilow brought the Conference to an end by handing out Citations to some of the RotaKids Clubs attending and finally, the children went home clutching their goodie bags.

Thank you to everyone who helped.
