At our Rotary meeting on Monday 26th June we welcomed our speakers Mike Hagen & Samden Sherpa from ‘Classrooms in the Clouds’, a charity specialising in rebuilding schools in a remote region of Nepal, close to Everest, that suffered catastrophic damage due to earthquakes in 2015.
We have funded the purchase of a 65-inch smart TV which had to delivered by jeep on a 12-15 hour journey from Kathmandu to Pokhari school on the 21st May.
Samden gave us a fascinating presentation about the work of ‘CITC’ in partnership with Rotary International in obtaining Rotary Global Grants to rebuild schools and also to sponsor teachers and students in Nepal to help develop their educational system.
Samden is a former Rotary Rotaractor, who spoke enthusiastically about the benefits of links with Rotary clubs in the UK to help the devastated schools in Nepal and was also congratulated on his recent marriage.
