2025 - Bexley Young Musician

Candidate selection

Candidates are selected in accordance with the entry conditions outlined below. The final awards ceremony offers shortlisted young musicians the opportunity to give solo performances under concert conditions. A panel of expert judges from the world of music adjudicates the concert, providing their verdict, along with advice and encouragement, at the end of the evening.

Conditions for entry

Entry is limited to musicians or singers resident in, or attending an educational establishment in the London Borough of Bexley, and aged under 19 years of age on 1 September 2025.

Entries, in the form of YouTube recordings, must be in by 19 December 2024.

Each performer will receive a finalist’s certificate plus an award of £100. In addition the musician or singer judged to have given the best overall performance will be awarded The Bexley Young Musician of the Year Cup to be held for two years, plus a replica cup which the winner will retain.

Conditions for Entry:

1. Entry is limited to musicians or singers resident in, or attending an educational establishment in the London Borough of Bexley, and aged under 19 years of age on 1 September 2025. Entries must be received by 19 December 2024.

2. It is expected that applicants will have reached not less than Grade 7 or 8 standard (or equivalent), the entry to be endorsed by a qualified music teacher.

3. The selection of applicants to perform at the concert will be based not only on their academic standard, but also on the need to provide a balanced and interesting range of instruments or voice for the concert. All applications must provide a 3-minute video via a YouTube link.

4. Each finalist should prepare a concert programme (instrument/s or voice), lasting a MAXIMUM of eight minutes. An experienced piano accompanist will be provided if required. There will be an opportunity to rehearse in the theatre beforehand, on the day of the concert.

5. The concert will be held on Saturday 15 March 2025, commencing at 7.00pm at Rose Bruford Drama School, Sidcup. The best overall performance will be decided on the night by a panel of distinguished judges.
