Presentation of £10K cheque to Macmillan Cancer

On Monday 31 July 2023 the club presented a cheque from the proceeds of the Grimethorpe Colliery Band to Macmillan Cancer

£10,000 given to Macmillan Cancer Support

From the very successful concert by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, which played to a full house in the Melton Theatre, and our sponsors we raised this amazing amount of money for the Macmillan Cancer Support. Last Monday president Gordon gave the cheque to Janet Gilchrist, who is the secretary of the local group, which she joined in 2007. This was a big group but is now desperate for new members.

This success would not have happened without the initiative and enthusiasm of Derek Simmons who got the club to support him. The concert was originally booked for before the pandemic and the band was able to reschedule it. To show the gratitude of our club we presented him with Rotary’s highest award, A Paul Harris Fellowship. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary. Derek was very grateful to the club and thanked the team that worked with him.
