The Rotary Club of Bedford Castle Nomination for 2023

The Rotary Club of Bedford Castle sponsor a local physically or mentally challenged young adult to enjoy a weeklong residential course at the Keswick Centre for the last week in April each year. The week promotes independence in a safe environment, and everyone is encouraged to do as much as they can and, frequently, more than they themselves expect. The ethos is to teach participants what they can do and not what they can't do.

This year the Rotary Club of Bedford Castle Club were able to sponsor Debbie Jackson. Debbie acquired a range of disabilities as a result of an illness in 2019 and this was the first holiday that she has had since that time. The holiday enabled her to join in with others to do a variety of challenges and opportunities that she would not normally be able to consider. Her family said that on her return Debbie was full of tales on her many adventures and challenges she faced . The result is that she appears happier, more self-confident and a much more aware of the things that she can do.

Without doubt, everyone who attends a Calvert Trust expedition has their comfort zone challenged at some time during the week and the impacts are often life changing.

Members of the Club find it extremely rewarding to be able to provide such an opportunity and to hear how much the delegate enjoyed and benefited from the experience. If you would like to donate, participate or learn more please contact the Club we will be pleased to hear from you.
