Summer BBQ 2023

Watton Rotary held its annual barbecue at Broom Hall on 3rd September 2023, with a classic car rally, auction and Young Citizen Awards

Watton Rotary Club held its second annual BBQ on 3rd September 2023 at Broom Hall Hotel. It was designed as a family event, with games for children, a classic car show, a raffle, a quiz, live music and a fundraising auction,  as well as a delicious barbecue. We also used the event to present this year's Young Citizen Awards to three community-spirited young people.

The weather was kind to us, and twenty or more classic vehicles (modern and vintage) were displayed by their proud owners. Vehicles ranged from vintage tractors and a Model T Ford, through a very rare Dodge Custom 88, and an impeccable Mark 5 Ford Cortina to a modern Aston Martin.

Throughout the afternoon musical entertainment was provided by the excellent Musical Memories duet, singing songs for all age groups to enjoy.

A professional auctioneer conducted an auction of items donated by local businesses, Rotary members and other friends of Rotary. Lots ranged from rugs donated by Reads of Watton to meal vouchers for local hostelries and tickets to Thurston Christmas Show. Over £1100 was thus raised for our charitable work.

Later in the afternoon we presented our Young Citizen Awards to deserving recipients Tilly Winchester, Adam Oliver and Daisy Draycott. The awards were sponsored by Lesley Cowling, in memory of her late husband and past Rotary Club President Peter.

The day was hard work, particularly for Rotarian Paul Weatherill who put it all together, but we felt that it had been a great success, and we shall want to repeat it next year.
