Group Community Award 2023

Wayland Men's Shed

President Shaun Yeoman presents Community Award to Malcolm Trayhorn and John Chamberlin of Wayland Men's Shed

The Rotary Club have been delighted to award this year's group Community Award to Wayland Mens Shed, for their valuable work in giving the men of Watton and surrounding area a place to meet for a chat and if they wish, get involved in one of their many activities, including computer repairs, carpentry and photography. Loneliness can be a particular problem for older men, who do not always have a wide network of friends, so the Mens Shed fulfils an important need.

Wayland Men's Shed is one of over 600 distributed around the country, and this year made a shortlist of 6 for Shed of the year 2023. It has made remarkable strides since its inception in 2016, boasting 78 active members with regular meetings held at Watton Leisure Centre. They have worked  with the Rotary Club this year on an environmental project at Wayland Academy, creating bird, bat and insect boxes, with planter boxes in the pipeline.

Men's Shed Chairman Malcolm Trayhorn, accompanied by John Chamberlin, came to one of our meetings in October to tell us of the progress they have made to date, and to receive the Community Award Certificate and Trophy from our President Shaun Yeoman.
