Launch of Hope
Borders Water Rescue Team call their new raft "HOPE" - the Rotary International theme for this year
Rotary International President Gordon McKinally fortunately was at home in the Scottish Borders on 4th Feb to name a water rescue craft Hope. The raft was bought by Borders Water Rescue Team using funds raised by Galashiels Rotary. They organised a mega wild water swimming event on the Tweed, which saw many cold water swimmers swim from the chain bridge to Berwick on Tweed.
Some of those swimmers turned up and joined Hope in the river, on a cold, wet and drizzly Sunday afternoon. Local Rotarians watched and cheered, giving Hope a good welcome. Hot chocolate and banana muffins sustained the swimmers and onlookers alike. Long may she float.
