Raising Funds for RSABI and RHET

We put on our posh frocks and glad rags for a delicious dinner to raise funds for our President's chosen charity.

March 1st is St David's Day, but here in Jedburgh we celebrated the work of two Scottish charities at our president Tony's special meal. We welcomed rotary presidents, past presidents, president's elect and other members from clubs across the borders as well as our own members, at Jedburgh Rugby Club. We were very pleased that Heather McInally (Borderlands club) joined us and read out a message from her husband and fellow Rotarian who was unable to come due to his duties as Rotary International President. Also with us was Narek Bido, the very first ever District Governor for Scotland South, Rotary district 1320.

The evening included an excellent three course meal (diets out of the window!), after dinner speeches, with the main act being Nigel Brown, a retired vet who gave such a great performance that I think was worthy of gracing the Edinburgh Fringe. Some spectacular prizes were won in the raffle; whisky galore, designer bags, genuine oil painting, and chocolates, chocolates, chocolates. And it was that raffle that raised £500 to be split equally between RSABI and Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET). RSBI gives practical, emotional and financial support to people who work in Scottish Agriculture. RHET is the educational charity of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland and it teaches children about food and farming, even to ones that live in towns and cities.
