On a sunny Sunday 2nd June, a posse of Bexhill Rotarians (pictured) descended with gusto on Bexhill Beaches to give them a jolly good clean up.
The exercise was helped by Bexhill Environmental Group which supplied the litter pickers for the Rotarians plus hoops and bags. The environmental group (www.bexhillenvironmentalgroup.org.uk) is totally independent and run entirely by volunteers who work to protect and enhance the Bexhill environment.
The Rotarians were split into two main teams which headed off along Cooden Beach. One of the teams was led by Rotarian John Cooper, his team headed east towards West Parade, the other team led by Rotarian John Meadows headed west towards Normans Bay, whilst Community Service Chair Mike Barton and Bexhill Environment Group’s Nick Redman tackled the beach along Herbrand Walk. After much activity, the Rotarians were very satisfied with their efforts and managed to achieve their aim of giving the Bexhill beaches a good litter picking so that many who use the beaches can enjoy a clean environment.
Community Service Chair Mike summed up the morning’s activities by commenting, “Our cleaning up morning on the beach was a great success in fresh air, sunshine and a good example of Rotary’s ideal of ‘Service Above Self’.”
