The annual Inter-Schools Quiz once again took place in the John Ferguson Theatre at Bishops Stortford College by kind permission of College Head, John Maguire, on Monday 10th March. There were two teams from Bishop’s Stortford College, two from The Bishop’s Stortford High School, one from St Mary’s Catholic School, one from the Leventhorpe School and one from Birchwood.
Leventhorpe progressed to the semi-final for the first time, besting the Bishop’s Stortford College B team, which was an excellent result, but were then beaten by a strong Bishop’s Stortford High School A team. Birchwood put up a strong fight in the other semi final against Bishop’s Stortford College A team, but lost what had been a tight contest until the last 2 minutes.
The final of 15 minutes was between the perennial favourites in which BSC ‘A’ scored a record 480 points to run away from TBSHS ‘A’ (220 points). The computer scoring system for display on the big screen adds significantly to the atmosphere but is only set up for scores up to 450 but happily the scorers also simultaneously run a hand-written score!
So in the 23rd year of this quiz, BSC won for the eight time justifying the title of perennial favourites!
As usual, it was an interesting and rewarding event. Our thanks go to member, Rtn Bernie Cotton, for organising the evening.Joint President Hugo Richardson can be seen in the photograph with the winning team.
