Rotary Young Citizen Award

Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland celebrates the achievements of young people with the annual Rotary Young Citizen Awards. These showcase the citizenship and responsibilities demonstrated by people under the age of 25.

There has been fantastic engagement with the Rotary Young Citizen Awards since its formation in 2007, both within Rotary and externally, as the awards continue to attract significant media interest. We hope that even more of the Rotary community will continue to nominate the outstanding young people in their area and give them the national recognition that they deserve.

Award categories

Rotary Young Citizen Award

As well as the Rotary Young Citizen Award, there are three special categories of award open for nomination.

Rotary Young Citizen Peacemaker Award

This award reflects on Rotary’s area of focus on Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution, to recognise young people, aged under 25, who have made a significant contribution by building peace and understanding, whether in their school, local community, by for example helping tackle anti-social behaviour and youth crime, perhaps as peer mentors, or with a peace project internationally. Again, nominations can be for an individual or group.

Rotary Young Citizen Sporting Hero Award

The Rotary Young Citizen Sporting Hero Award enables you to recognise and highlight the achievements and contribution, as a positive role model to others, of a sports participant or a group or an individual or group who is enabling others to participate in sport. This gives the chance to nominate someone or a group who has achieved exceptional things in the world of sport, be it able-bodied or disability sport, for example wheelchair sport. The criteria for this award are:

  • Aged 25 years of age or under.
  • Open to an individual or group.
  • Must have made a positive social impact on a community through action, and be a positive role model for others.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the importance of sport in transforming their life and/or other lives.
  • Sports participant(s) nominated must have shown a determination, dedication and commitment in their chosen sport(s).

Rotary Young Citizen Environmentalist Award

The Rotary Young Citizen Environmentalist Award is a new award, reflecting Rotary’s new area of focus on the Environment, to recognise young people, aged under 25, an individual or group, who are passionate about protecting the environment.
