Members of the Westbury Rotary Club will assemble at the car park for Bratton Camp / Westbury White Horse to clean the immediate area.

Members of the Westbury Rotary Club assembled  at the car park for Bratton Camp / Westbury White Horse to clean the immediate area.

The day started off a trifle gloomy and damp but only proceeded to deteriorate from then on in!  We numbered about 15 people in all, members of Westbury Rotary and their family along with 6 people who had seen our Rotary website and Rotary Facebook pages which had featured the litter pick.  We are extremely grateful to all that turned up - including those who came to give moral support!

The gallant volunteers proceeded to disperse around the car park, White Horse and Bratton Camp area.  Much debris was cleared and the area looked the better for our efforts.  Pleased to say that the proliferation of wine bottles was not as pronounced as previous years although quite a few little gas cannisters were retrieved.

The area around the car park which serves Bratton Camp and the White Horse can sometimes be strewn with empty take away food containers and empty wine bottles after revelry and high jinks from some of the locals!  Bottles of "Zesty White" (empty) abounded last time we did a clean up of the area as did food wrappers.  They have obviously not attended a Rotary Wine Tasting evening.

The team from 2019 managed to fill over 15 large plastic refuse bags with detritus.  We were furnished with equipment to collect the rubbish by Westbury Town Council and the refuse was placed to the rear of the Laverton Centre to be disposed of by the Council.

As ever, we were mindful of the Covid situation and will adhered to all relevant guidlines/laws for our own and others safety.
