24 hour Rotary Club relay team to raise funds for Childrens Hospice Jigsaw.

Five members of Brampton & Longtown Rotary Club along with two Friends will be walking and running a relay round Talkin Tarn over 24 hours from 5th to 6th May beginning and ending at 3.00pm.  They hope to achieve at least 130 miles to raise funds for Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

The seven team members include two runners who will be running at least one, and hopefully two half marathons between them. Two of the walkers aim to be on the go for 12 hours.  They are all in training with additional runs, trips to Talkin Tarn and indoor exercise.   If you see people walking very fast around Talkin Tarn over the next few weeks it may be them!

The charity Jigsaw provides day to day care, support and activities to children and young people from across the county living with life limiting illness.  Care is provided in a home from home setting and each young person’s care is personalised towards their own needs.  They hope to raise £2000 which will pay for the furnishing of one room for children with life limiting conditions.

One of the organisers Peter Sedgwick says “I got to know Jigsaw well on the back of several Rotakids groups selecting this charity to support.  Having completed two previous challenges over a month in 2021 and 2023, raising money for local youth-related good causes, we were looking for something equally as challenging, but different. “

Ian Forth who is also taking part says  “I am so pleased to be supporting youth again this Rotary year. Jigsaw provides the highest level of care for children with life limiting conditions and the staff have a great understanding of the needs of both the children and parents.  With 75% of all funding for the hospice coming from donations and local community support and projects, every penny counts.  Having recently visited Jigsaw and seen first-hand the dedication, passion and love that the staff have for the care they provide, my visit served to intensify my commitment to our ‘Footsore4Jigsaw’ fundraiser.”

In May 2023 two of the walkers completed the West Highland Way, Cumbrian Way and Hadrian’s Wall Path whilst raising funds for local good causes.  There is absolutely no doubt they will be ‘Footsore4Jigsaw’ at the end.

The event will be started by a representative from Jigsaw.  Details for Footsore4Jigsaw are on the poster.
