Father Christmas visits Settle and District
The Rotary Club of Settle managed to bring Father Christmas to visit some neighbourhoods in Settle and the surrounding district in the weeks running up to Christmas but his planned schedule was disrupted by so much snow and ice that Santa's little helpers could not find their way through the drifts in the villages of Langcliffe, Stainforth and Horton! We apologise for this unfortunate lapse and will do our best to make sure that next year Santa gets there before the snow gets too severe for the elves. Happily a total of £3,500 was collected in the neighbourhoods Santa did manage to visit, and we are very grateful for the generosity of the residents in those neighbourhoods.
Settle Rotary Club would welcome requests for funding from local clubs and charities. Please send requests to our secretary c/o The Royal Oak Hotel, Settle, BD24 9ED or use the "Contact Form" tab above.
Rotary Merry-go-Round 2010
Tickets are now on sale for our ever-popular Merry-go-Round, a safari supper visiting hostelries in and around Settle. This is an opportunity to sample some inns and restaurants you may not have tried before, as well as enjoying an evening out with friends and raising money for local causes.
The date set for this event is Friday 19th February 2010 and proceeds will go towards Manorlands Hospice and the Childrens Society, for projects in the Craven area.
Please contact any member of Settle Rotary Club for tickets or contact us via the Contact Form on this website.
Settle Saunter 2010
A walk or a run over 9 or 14 or 24 miles
Since 1985 Rotary International has sought to eradicate polio from the world by helping to fund mass immunisation programmes, working in partnership with international bodies such as the World Health Organisation and UNICEF. Success is now very close, but a final push is needed to achieve complete eradication.
Over the 3-year period 2009-2011 Rotary International is seeking further immunisation funds of $200 million and that amount will be complemented by contributions from various countries and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (founder of Microsoft).
Rotary Club of Settle organised the Settle Saunter in 2009 as its small contribution to this effort. We make a small profit from the entry fees but we are also delighted to accept any extra funds (however small) from entrants who are sponsored for their efforts.
The various routes take us into the Yorkshire Dales, with the long route visiting Feizor, Austwick, Clapham, Ingleborough, Oxenber Woods SSSI and Stainforth Force.
The 2010 Settle Saunter will take place on
Saturday 15 May from Victoria Hall, Kirkgate, Settle at 9.00am (walkers) & 10.00am (runners).
If you are interested in taking part please click here, or use the "Settle Saunter" link in the panel to the left.
