Rtn Barry Holmes is bringing along his son Dr Neil Holmes - his field is bacteria and their role in modern medicine - see Neil's full profile below.

Dr Neil Holmes

Dr Neil Holmes was educated at St Andrew's Primary School, then Soham Village College followed by Hills Road VIth Form College in Cambridge. He went on to study at the University of East Anglia, where he achieved a 1st Class Hons. Degree in Biological Science (BSc) and went on complete his PhD. The thesis topic was reasearch into the growth and development of Streptomyces bacteria. Streptonyces and Actinomycetes bacteria are soil derived organisms and a rich source of natural products such a antibiotics. Since the completeion of his PhD, Neil has undertaken various projects at the John Innes Centre in Norwich - he is currently back at UAE specifically working on actinomyctete bacteria in South American Leafcutter ants. He will expand on this during his Rotary talk.
