During the year our Convenor Past President George sadly passed away; however things were in place to complete his good work.
The Dictionary for Life project (D4L) on enhancing literacy involved distributing copies to all local primary schools has carried on and has been well received by pupils and featured in the local press.
The Rotary Vocational Project with the Soldiers’ Charity, helping an individual to take up employment received input, as did the Butterfly Trust for children with cystic fibrosis requiring drivers to take patients to the BGH and Sick Kids in Edinburgh.
Members and their partners continue to support weekly the recording of the Hawick News as part of the Borders Talking Newspapers service for the blind.
Both the town’s Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala and Heart of Hawick Children’s Book Awards were given donations and members asked to officiate on the day.
The Reivers Festival Literary High Tea held in the Mansfield Club rooms was again organised and hosted by the Club. The speaker was Fiona Armstrong who attracted a large and appreciative audience.
