Home | Community & Vocational | Blood Pressure Day 2011

Sat Apr 9th 2011

On Saturday, Penrith Rotary Club, in association with The Stroke Association, invited pedestrians in Penrith town centre to a free blood pressure check in St Andrew's Church Rooms. Well over 150 people accepted and underwent a check, courtesy of a team of volunteer Community Staff Nurses from Penrith Hospital who gave each person a brief consultation and advice based on the results. Rotarian Douglas Mellor who organised the event said, 'Every year around 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke and high blood pressure-or hypertension-is one of the major risk factors. High blood pressure usually has no symptoms and many people are unaware that they have it.'
