Beer tasting notes 2011

BreweryBeer ABV

Town Mill Black Ven 5.0%

Brewed using pale, crystal, black, and chocolate malts together with Bobek and Bramling hops. A dark brown porter with a pronounced depth of flavour, enhanced with the blackcurrant fruitiness of the hops.


Mighty Oak Oscar Wilde 3.7%

A wonderfully mellow, nutty, moreish dark mild. Brewed using MarisOtter Pale, Crystal and Black malts and gently hopped with Challenger.

CHAMPION BEER OF BRITAIN 2011


Mighty Oak English Oak 4.8%

A glowing amber ale with full malt flavours balanced by a strong hop finish from First Gold and Willamette hops.


The Cottage Brewery Norman's Conquest 5.0%

Supreme Champion Beer of Britain,Conquest is brewed with Maris Otter pale, crystal and chocolate malts and hopped with Challenger. It is a full bodied, deep ruby beer with delicious hints of chocolate, bitter orange and vine fruits. A real winter warmer.


Bath Ales Barnstormer 4.5%

Brewed using a mix of Maris Otter, Chocolate and Crystal malts together with Bramling Cross hops. These fine ingredients combined with the brewers' skill make this a truly rewarding beer. Made with wheat and barley malt.


Andwell BreweryRuddy 4.6%

Rich ruby ale with a fruity aroma,this ale is named after a deep red dragonfly found in local rivers and wetlands. The beer uses malted rye to create its characteristic ruby glow. The flavours and aromas derive from a combination of English hops.


Irving Brewery Invincible4.6%

A full bodied medium chestnut coloured premium cask ale with an initial sweet flavour balanced with a subtle bitterness.The beer finishes with a delicious citrus spice hop character.

Cotleigh Brewery Honey Buzzard 4.5%

Copper coloured infused with local Wiveliscombe honey. A smooth, creamy and very popular beer.

Cotleigh BreweryBarn Owl 4.5%

A distinctive and full flavoured premium strength bitter. Copper coloured with hints of toffee and nut with a smooth malty bitter sweet finish.


Moor Beer Company Old Freddy Walker 7.3%

This cult ale is one for the connoisseur! A rich, dark, full bodied ale that really has to be tasted to be appreciated. Made with a blend of Pale, Lager, Crystal, Wheat and Black malts that are fermented withan English yeast. Liberty and Bramling Cross hops are added to provide a balancing dose of bitterness.

A golden, hoppy and refreshing beer that goes down quickly for 5%. Pale and Wheat malts are jostling for your attention with Challenger, Perle and Northern Brewer hops. At this strength our English yeast leaveshints of honey.

A dark brown porter infused with vanilla contrasting the bitterness of roasted barley and malts with a subtle vanilla sweetness.

A well rounded traditional bitter beer.Clean tasting with a slight bitterness on the palate.

A chanceful, traditional strong best bitter. Rich and full bodied with a rounded malt flavour and a satisfying long finish.


Otter Brewery Otter Bright 4.3%

It is a very refreshing beer with a fruity taste. The aftertaste is sweet with a subtle bitterness which is likely to leave you wanting more.


Otter Brewery Otter Head5.8%

It has a distinct barley wine, old ale character, yet is light to drink. It has a malt, fruit and slightly sweet flavour, with a long bittersweet aftertaste.

This copper-coloured beer has a traditional hoppy aroma, infused with toffee overtones, leading to a full, malty flavour and highly quaffable character, making this one for the pack to hunt down.

Full bodied, clean tasting with hints of marmalade on palate.


SkinnersBetty Stogs 4%

Classic pale amber mid strength bitter with distinct hoppy overtones. A beautifully balanced quaffing ale.

A strong, refreshing, clean tasting golden ale,flowery & fruity hops in the mouth and malt undertones, with a clean and lasting malty,bittersweet finish.


EverardsTiger 4.2%

Tiger Best Bitter is a classic example of getting the perfect balance between sweetness and bitterness. Crystal malt gives the beer its rounded toffee character.


Flax ManorBlack Jack Porter4.6%

A smooth dark ruby coloured beer with rich aromas of roasted malt. An initial sweetness followed by a good lingering hop finish and hazel nut after notes.


Stonehenge Pigswill4.0%

Brewed at OG 1040 and ABV 4.0%. A full bodied beer,not so bitter, but rich in hop aroma which gives the beer a delightful aftertaste. The warm amber colour is very appealing to the eye.


WadworthsBishops Tipple 5.0%

A golden brew with an intriguing aroma from the delicate Saaz and spicy Styrian Goldings hops. The full flavour is well balanced with hop bitterness giving a clean finish for easy drinking.


BallardsBallards Wild 4.7%

A dark porter, both warming and refreshing, with rich malty flavours. Wild is lightly hopped.

Mr Whiteheads Heart of Hampshire 6.0%

A traditional medium-dry cider with a light aftertaste and a golden colour.


Mr Whiteheads Cirrus Minor 5.0%

A light summer cider made from a varying blend of apples with a lower sugar content, including Royal Gala, Braeburn, Spartan and Lord Lambourne.


Mr Whiteheads Newtons Discovery3.8%

A revival of a historical light and dry cider made for quaffing whilst you work the fields! At only 3.8% ABV you can keep your head and thirst at bay. This is made from many varieties of apple including Discovery.


Mr Whiteheads Midnight Special 5.0%

Midnight Special Perry uses a unique blend of fresh dessert and perry pears, and contains no added sugar, perservatives or flavouring.
