We are delighted to announce the winners of the 30th Annual Schools Public Speaking Competition run by The Rotary Club of Glasgow.


We are delighted to announce the winners of the 30th Annual Schools Public Speaking Competition run by The Rotary Club of Glasgow.  Four separate Heats were run over a two week period with the Finals held at Caledonian University on Thursday 24th November 2011. This year there were 80 applicants from 15 schools and the subject choice was:

The Journey of Education
The Arab Spring
Young Offenders - Prison or Pampering

The standard was high and the winners were:

In 1st Place - Lucy McCracken (S4) from Hutchesons' Grammar School
In 2nd Place - Chrissie Symington (S5 ) from Douglas Academy
In 3rd Place - Juliet Gordon (S6)  from the High School of Glasgow

There was a special "Carol Horne Trophy" awarded to the winner of the S1 to S3 age group which this year went to Sophie Vennard from Douglas Academy.

Our congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all the other contestants together with their teachers and parents who supported them in their excellent efforts.  Thanks also to all those Rotarians who helped and organised the event, and to Glasgow Caledonian University for once again facilitating us.
