The Rotary Club of Chelmsford supports Rotary's own charity - Foundation

District 3272 has awarded Chelmsford Rotary club and Mo Sadiq the Rotary 'Service Above Self' award.

These pictures were taken on 13th June 2013 at the inauguration ceremony of our latest Matching Grant Project No: 77424 at Sahiwal in Pakistan.  Two plaques were erected to commemorate the occasion.

The project provided the following facilites to the students of two schools

  • Clean drinking water to both the girls' and boys' schools.  A 200 foot deep tubewell was dug and an electric motor pumps water to a 20 foot high storage tank and three drinking tap assemblies have been included.
  • 185 desks and chairs for small children, 125 desks and chairs for older children, along with 10 teachers' chairs.  Previously, children had to sit on the floor for lessons. 
  • The existing toilet blocks were repaired.

The chief guest was their District 3272 Governor Anthony Richard.   The attendees were Sahiwal Rotarians, students, teachers and local village people.

  •  Rotary Foundation advance the world understanding, goodwill & peace through the improvement of health, education & alleviation of poverty. The Rotary motto 'Service Above Self' conveys the humanitarian spirit of this organisation, with more than 1.2m. members, through meanful community & international service projects, including - Eradication of Polio; Reducing Child Mortality & Fighting Hunger & Water deprivation.
  • Rotary Foundation has many branches within the overall scheme, Service & Fellowship include projects for Ambassadorial Scholarships; Group Study Exchange are examples where vocational exchange opportunities for business and professionals between 25 - 40 may visit different countries to observe & study the host countries institutions & cultures; develope their personal & professional relationships.
  • Our own club have a particular interest in developing the Foundation principle with the Rotary Club of Sahiwal Central in Pakistan. We are now completing the third project at the MG Girls High school at Sahiwal which caters for over 2000 students. The standard of building maintenance; drainage; sewage & toilets are totally inadequate; hazardous & unhygienic. The Rotary Matching Grant scheme arrangement with our own club's financial support will enable this work to be successfully completed.
