Club Initiatives

The club has had a number of initiatives over the years and here is a flavour of what we have achieved and also those activities that are still being supported.

Drugs and drug abuse Video

An acclaimed production that was widely distributed to schools.

Plymouth Immediate Medical Support (PLIMS).

This was a club initiative. Local doctors provide immediate medical treatment to anyone involved in a serious accident or medical emergency

Diabetes Research Fellow

Together with the other Rotary Clubs in Plymouth we raised money to sponsor a research fellow into diabetes at the Peninsular Medical School at Derriford to commemorate the Centennial of Rotary International in 2005.

Ambassadorial Scholars.

Overseas students sponsored by their local Rotary Club study in language schools here in the City.  Each has a Rotarian as a mentor for their stay. In recent times we have mentored students from Japan, Taiwan, Brazil, Italy and Russia.

The next Ambassadorial Scholar will be a young lady from New Zealand who arrives in September to study at the University of Plymouth.  She will be mentored by our newest member.

Hannah Wood was our Ambassadorial Scholar in Rio de Janeiro in the summer of 2007.

Rotary Club of Brest

We have enjoyed being twinned with our colleagues in Brest for many years.  Next year it is their turn to be hosted by us.  In two years time they will reciprocate.

Club Visits

In recent years we have visited the European Union HQ in Brussels, and a Brussels Rotary Club.  We have also visited clubs in Prague and Dublin.  We have also visited the House of Westminster.
