The Memory Cafe welcomes All. A warm welcome for people with dementia or other problems associated memory loss (and their families / carers). Theme - The Harvest. This is the nineteenth event.
This month’s meeting was again well attended and had harvest as its’ theme. Mike Petty was our guest entertainer and he regaled us with extracts from local newspapers featuring items relating to harvests' past. One story from 1912 told of a whole month of rain resulting in the shocks (stooks) of sheaves floating across the field to become entangled in the hedge with men and women in waders trying to retrieve them. The usual sing-a-long included harvest hymns such as “Bringing in the sheaves” and many favourite popular songs from the early part of the 20th century.
Open 10.00am - 12.00pm on the first Friday morning of each month.
A Memory-Cafe is where there is a warm welcome for people with dementia or other problems associated memory loss (and their families / carers), who's new memories may be partial and confusing. The aim is to evoke old memories that are complete and comfortable through, for example, refreshments in china cups, photos and documents from past years, songs and poems and informal talks.
Next month doors open on 5th October 2012.
