From Paul and Chris, our two enthusiastic presenters, we learned that Helen House opened in 1982 as the world's first children's hospice and Douglas House opened in 2004 specifically for young adults up to the age of 36

When a child or young adult has a life limiting condition everyone in the family is affected.

The experienced and qualified Family Support and Bereavement Team at Helen & Douglas House
is here to help families with the concerns that go beyond the physical care of their child or young adult. Coming from a range of professional backgrounds the team is able to offer emotional, spiritual and social support to parents, partners, siblings and other involved family members. This support can begin from the first stay at Helen and Douglas House right through to bereavement support.
