Club Meeting with Guest Speaker

Rotary Club President Scott Elliot welcomed the first-ever lady District Governor Kete Keter to last week's meeting.  Kate, of Linlithgow Grange Rotary Club was accompanied by fellow members Jim Gillespie and Tom Riddell.  She addressed the club on this year's Rotary message "Engage Rotary, change lives" and in an inspired and motivated talk highlighted how this could be applied to enhance humanity and enrich the lives of Rotarians and people they became involved with especially those who needed help and assistance both in local communities and world-wide.  She has twice visited India to assist in the Rotary Project of Polio Plus and said they were within touching distance of eradicating polio.  Three club members then gave their experiences of what Rotary meant to them.  Past President Gus Neilson said his first attendance at a District Conference brought home to him the size of the movement and the depth of its commitment.  Vice President Sandy Bannerman gave a resume of the club's recent achievements and activities in assisting so many different causes.  Mairhi Trickett, Junior Vice President and Past President of the Orkney Rotary Club related her impressions of Rotary since joining the club last year and said she found it friendly and industrious and her welcome had exceeded her expectations.  It was the first time she had attended a coffee morning when all the work was done by men.  President Scott gave the vote of thanks and thanked everyone for their contribution to the evening.
