Swanage Rotary Take 2nd Place in 2013 Carnival

Sun, Jul 28th 2013 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

Swanage Rotary once again took part in the Swanage Carnival which had the theme of "Hollywood". The Wizard of Oz proved a great success with the crowds who appreciated the fun had by all involved.

It was a curious group that turned up on Sunday morning to see what they had let themselves in for for Swanage Carnival. Sue and Mo had kept their plans very close to their chests and only the theme of Hollywood was known.

"It's tough" said Sue - "if we tell them what we are going to do with them they would never show up". However, the intrepid group did show up on time - including for the first time our President Neil who confounded all expectations by smiling at least once (or was it wind).

There are certain traditions that have to be observed each year at Swanage Carnival - the Notting Hill Dancers add noise & colour, as do the Red Arrows - and David dresses up as a woman. Sadly he left this year disappointed as he ended up as an androgious cartoon character - still there's always next year.

Againt the odds Swanage Rotary was awarded second place (tough being up against primary schools kids dressed as munchkins). A tribute to both the organisaers and participants. The float attracted a lot of money although Doug wished some of the coins could have been aimed at the buckets.

The last word goes to Sue. "Each year I make a careful note of all the things said which I disagree with. Those people get invited onto the float and I enjoy 2 hours of ritulistic humiliation on their part".

Here's to next year when the lovely Sue & Mo will do a superb job as always :-)
