Jim Walker: Jack Swanston - Borders from the air

Thu, Dec 5th 2013 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

Club's weekly meeting with a member speaking

President Scott Elliot welcomed members to last week's meeting of the Rotary Club in the Buccleuch Hotel.  Due to the speaker calling off at the last minute club member and Past President Jack Swanston stepped into the breach and saved the day.  He gave an excellent illustrated talk on three aeroplane trips he had made across the Borders, two in a helicopter and one in a single-engined 'plane.  He covered the area from Longtown to Pathhead, and from Peebles to Kelso including most of the Border towns and villages and well-known landmarks which all looked much different from the air.  He showed many photos depicting Hawick and the surrounding countryside which highlighted the area known as "the soft rolling hills of the Borders" which was much enjoyed and appreciated by the members after which Jim Walker gave the vote of thanks.
