President Scott Elliot welcomed members to last week's meeting of the Rotary Club when he introduced the speaker, Scott Renwick who is Principal Teacher of Physical Education at Hawick High School. Scott, in a highly entertaining talk displaying all his paternal skills, highlighted his career and how he arrived at his present post. A true Teri, he emphasised how big a part growing up in Hawick had played in his formative years. His family had been keen Salvation Army Corps members and he warmly thanked two Rotarians David Oliver and Bobby Cairns, also Salvationists, for all their guidance and help in this respect. He developed a keen interest in music and played the euphonium at the Army band. He later progressed to the town band and explained the trauma he went through when he had to inform his granny, Teenie, that he was moving! He related his school days and his progression to study at Moray House and the lasting friendships he made there. He also went on a Borders Exploration Group expedition to Outer Mongolia and explained how it broadened his experience. After graduating he took up his first post at Earlston High School, where he met his future wife, and later moved on promotion to Hawick High School as Head of the Department. His talk moved on at a lively pace with much humour and he ended with displaying his musical skills by giving a lovely rendition of 'My Borderland' on his euphonium. After questions Past President Bobby Cairns gave the vote of thanks and complimented Scott on a relaxed but informative talk which was much enjoyed by the members.
