Billy McWatters:

 President Scott Elliot welcomed a deputation from Selkirk Rotary Club to last week's meeting when President Jim McPherson, Past Presidents Edith Scott and Stuart Wilson were the visitors.  The speaker unfortunately had to cancel at the last minute and President Jim filled in the breach.  Jim, who retired from teaching at Selkirk High School four years ago had taken up a post with Scottish Borders Council's Outdoor Education team.  He has had a lifetime experience of outdoor activities with the school, Borders Exploration Group and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme so his new post was an ideal situation.  He is involved with senior pupils, boys and girls, from Kelso, Hawick and Jedburgh and takes them on, amongst other things, canoeing, skiing and rock climbing as well as nights over under canvas.  He also tutors Duke of Edinburgh Award candidates from bronze up to gold level.  After an interesting talk Past President Billy McWatters, who was awarded an M.B.E. for his work with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, gave the vote of thanks.
