Chris Howard received his Civic Award in recognition of his work as voluntary chairman on the Community magazine for 36 years having helped to set up the magazine in 1971.

This prestigious award is presented to nominated individuals who have brought honour or prestige to the town, so enhancing its reputation within the district, the country or the world, either by some single outstanding act or by voluntary work sustained over a long period of time.
