At the Rotary Club meeting last week the retiring President Scott Elliot handed over the chain of office to Sandy Bannerman for his second term of office as he was in the post in 2000/01. Scott said he had enjoyed his second term as President and thanked the members for making it a successful and enjoyable year. Sandy congratulated Scott and said he looked forward to the continuing success of the club and then presented Mairhi Trickett with her Vice-President's insignia and also introduced Jim Walker as Junior Vice-President. Sandy welcomed a regular visitor Harold Wilner of the Rotary Club of Kingston-upon -Thames and also Jo Pawley, Assistant District Governor of the Rotary Club of Eyemouth. The various convenors gave reports of the various projects lined up for the coming year which should ensure an exciting and productive time. Sandy was present at the High School prize-giving the previous night and the recipient of the Rotary Prize for Modern Studies was Daniel Nixon.
Jo Pawley then gave a short address on Rotary's "Promitto Project" which was to help men and women leaving the Armed Forces to adjust into civvy life and especially gaining employment which suited their credentials. She introduced a local soldier who has been assigned to the Hawick club and explained the different avenues which could be explored to help him in his quest as he had recently left the Army after serving in the field in Afghanistan. Sandy thanked Jo for her talk and assured the young man that he could depend on help from the Hawick Rotarians.
