Rotarians gathered for their weekly meeting last week and heard an address by Murray Watson on a new and innovative project to help dementia and alzheimer victims. President Sandy Bannerman introduced Murray who explained how the project worked. Introduced initially by senior football clubs Hawick RFC have now adapted and applied it to rugby. Sufferers, male and female, meet monthly at Mansfield clubrooms where they are entertained socially and rugby is introduced by photographs, recordings and memorabilia which has the desired effect of triggering memories of bygone times which generates much discussion and is greatly appreciated by victims and their carers who sometimes also attend. The project is in its infancy but has an interesting programme in place until the end of the yerar and looks like being a popular and worthwhile experience. President Sandy gave the vote of thanks and wished Murray and the team all success in the future.
