David Oliver: District Quiz Hawick v Jedburgh

Thu, Sep 25th 2014 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

First round contest of the annual Rotary Quiz

President Sandy Bannerman welcomed members of Jedburgh Rotary Club to last week's meeting for a round of the Rotary quiz.  Also present was Greg Turnbull, Perth, Western Australia, a relation and the guest of Billy McWatters.  His forefather went from Hawick to Australia in the 1880's and he is a regular visitor to the "grey auld toon" of his roots.  The quizmaster was Allan McCredie and Hawick was represented by Gus Neilson, Jim Walker, Tommy Mulvee and Ron Smith while the Jedburgh team comprised of Steve Smith, Anthony Armitage, Tony Rae and Matt Fleming,  Jedburgh ran out comfortable winners by 22-11.  The questions were of such a complex nature that all present were of the opinion that they made the Brain of Britain akin to a primary school quiz!  President Sandy congratulated Jedburgh on their victory and wished them well in the next round and thanked Alan for being an excellent quizmaster.
