President Sandy Bannerman welcomed The Head Team from Hawick High to the meeting. After a short introduction Kyle Barlow presented his talk first. Jessica Simpson had already told him he would be going first.
He began with his apprehensions on starting High school, but he explained that in a short time these were forgotten as he made new friends and there were no bullying tactics from older pupils. As he progressed through school he soon found that he was much more of a scientist than an arts student and relayed to the company his fear of French and how it had to be jettisoned after he had achieved an excellent set of Standard Grade results. His Higher results the next year were outstanding, gaining five A passes, even in English which he struggled to develop an interest in. He was delighted at the end of his fifth year to be chosen as Head boy and said he was going to put as much back into the school as he could because he felt that the school had provided many excellent opportunities for him, such as visits to the Battlefields. He also stressed the part played by the staff that had inspired him and worked really hard to help him to do his very best in school.
Jessica was also full of praise for her teachers. She reported that she had been keen throughout her five years been determined to get involved in anything and everything that went on, that she could participate in. Be it the hockey team or the maths club she was there to get the most out of them and to give of her best to them. Just as Kyle had had his
