At last week's meeting of the Rotary Club President Sandy Bannerman introduced member Andrew Suddon who gave a talk on the General Elections held in Hawick in the 1830/40's which turned out to be lively affairs. Prior to the Reform Act, 1832 only 3 people in the town had the vote but the Act increased this to 346 but this did not include the workers as the voter had to own property with an annual valuation of
