President Sandy Bannerman welcomed a good turnout of members, wives and guests to last week's meeting of the Rotary Club to honour the birthday of the Bard at the annual Burns' Supper. The haggis was piped in by Howard Walker and addressed by Gus Neilson after which the Selkirk Grace was said by Jock Thorburn and then traditional fayre was enjoyed by the company. The evening was then passed over to MC Bobby Cairns who had arranged an excellent troupe of artistes from Howard on his small pipes to the excellent singer Michael Aitken and songstresses Pat Sutherland and Joyce Tinlin who were all in good voice. The Immortal Memory was given by Gordon Jackson, MBE who covered the life of Burns in his inimitable style. Michael Aitken gave an excellent rendition of Tam o' Shanter with his usual banter and style after which President Sandy proposed the vote of thanks after which the evening closed with Auld Lang Syne, accompanied all along by the other member of the musical Walker family, Rosalyn.
