CAMEL CHALLENGE REPORT
Wadebridge Rotary Club's 2015 Camel Challenge Fun Run
Wadebridge Rotary Club Camel Challenge 2015
On a glorious, sunny mid-March Sunday morning approx 70 runners took part in the annual Camel Challenge at Pencarrow. The event, organised by Mike Dodd and Wadebridge Rotary Club, was run entirely within the Pencarrow estate by kind permission of Lady Iona Molesworth St Aubyn.
The majority of the runners, ranging, in different age groups, from 7yrs upwards undertook the full course of 4 miles among trees, along tracks, through the Iron Age fort to finish on the lawn outside Pencarrow House. There was an optional shorter course for some of the younger ones. Each of the finishers, ie all of them, received a medal. This was a fun run and not a competitive race, providing children from Cornish schools with a community event.
Rotarian Mike Dodd, organiser of Camel Challenge 2015 said, "This is an opportunity, in a perfect location, to provide the children with a chance to go on an adventurous run in a challenging and safe environment. We are immensely grateful to the Pencarrow estate for their support and also to Police cadets, Army cadets and Camelford Rotarians for their help in running this event.".
Money raised, through entry fees, will be allocated to local projects and organisations in due course.
